Carrying Forward the “Red Boat” Spirit and Walking in the Forefront of the Times
On May 5, 2018, the 200th anniversary of Karl Marx’s birth, the Party Committee of the School of Political Science & International Relations (SPSIR) organized more than 60 faculty members, student Party members and active applicants for Party membership to go to Jiaxing, Zhejiang Province by bus, to visit the Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall and the former site of the 1st National Congress of the CPC (the “Red Boat”). The group looked back on the history of founding of the CPC, reviewed the admission oath, and learned the “Red Boat” spirit. This trip is aimed at fostering the political ideal of young student Party members, and strengthening the political belief of faculty Party members.
At the Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall, the Party members listened carefully to the narration of the guide and stopped to take a closer look at precious historical materials such as books, photos and relics. A vivid historical picture of the fighting course of the Communist Party of China for more than 90 years seemed to be unfolded in front of everyone. The restoration scenes such as the “Red Boat” on Nanhu Lake, the Destruction of Opium at Humen and the Jiaxing Railway Station, made everyone feel as if they were on the scene, feel the passionate and exciting moments, and be filled with infinite patriotism. The Communist Manifesto, the materials on the May 4th Patriotic Movement, the straw sandals worn by the soldiers, the used food boxes and other revolutionary cultural relics, told the story of the eventful years of the hard journey and the flames of war. The scenes and pictures enabled everyone to further understand the hard and great revolutionary history and have a deeper understanding of the Party's mass line and the “Red Boat” spirit. In front of the oath wall of Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall, many Party members and comrades solemnly raised their right hands in front of the bright red Party flag to review the admission oath.
In the afternoon, the faculty and student Party members continued to visit the Read Boat, the site of the 1st National Congress of the CPC. A small boat is moored on the shore of the island in the center of the lake. The Party members stopped and gazed one after another, to recall the historical stories engraved on the boat. Then, they visited the Yanyu Tower in Nanhu Lake, where they looked into the distance and felt the profound changes brought to Jiaxing by the development of the times.
As an important part of the education campaign carried out by the Party branches of SPSIR, this visit enabled our Party members to receive a revolutionary tradition education on the site. Everyone said that they should closely combine the “Red Boat” spirit with their work and study in the university, put it into practice, and actively respond to the call of the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress in their future study and work, walking steadily in the forefront of the times.
